DENGUE HELPLINE. . . reaching out Dengue - is it now a threat? Over the past years we've always heard about this deadly little mosquito-borne infection that has been constantly pestering everyone. At first people did not pay much attention to it - it's just one of those viral infections anyway. But when people started dying and the number of cases just soared so high in such a short period of time, people are now actually writing about it. And finally more and more people are really reading about it, trying to learn how NOT to have it. It's about time we all got involved.
The government, through the Department of Health (DOH) is actively campaigning for the eradication of the pesky mosquito that's responsible for spreading the infection. Our Red Cross has likewise started collecting blood to make sure that there is enough supply when patients start bleeding (which is exactly what happened just last month). Our own RITM (Rizal Institute for Tropical Medicine) is also actively doing research for the preparation of a vaccine to protect us should we get exposed to the infection. So many private research groups and scientists have joined the band to find ways to kill the larvae of the mosquito and hospefully stop the spread. While all these are taking place, what's happening to those people who are at risk of getting the dengue virus? what's happening to those patients who are already infected with the Dengue virus? Most of you have probably heard in the news that most of our hospitals located in Dengue Hot Spot areas are so congested with patients that they actually have 3 to 4 patients sharing a bed (can you imagine how many people are in a single ward, not counting the watchers who are at risk themselves). Is there anything that can be done instead of just waiting for the infection to either resolve or get worse (bleeding or death)? YES, there is! We can all actually do something about it. Yes, it's right that we need to get rid of those mosquitoes by clearing and cleaning our surroundings. But let's not forget about our own body. The key to being able to survive the Dengue infection (or any other illness) is to have a strong immune system - yes a strong immune system. It's nothing new, you've heard it before for sure, but have you actually done it? If not, do you know how to do it? This is where alternative medicine comes in - it teaches you the practical ways to stay fit - we sometimes call it Alternative Preventive Medicine. This is what we've noticed everytime we go around. People have heard about the need to strengthen their immune system, but hardly anyone knows the proper way to do it, To answer this, we at Health Asia Medical Clinic, together with our friends have started the Dengue Helpline. It's a 24hour mobile number to answer questions from those who are already infected, as well those who are at high risk or suspected of having Dengue Fever. One of the objectives of the Dengue Helpline is to be able to guide the patient through the illness so that he or she could recover faster and not progress to the bleeding phase of Dengue. As part of our lecture and seminars, we also teach participants and friends a simple protocol in managing dengue patients in coordination with their doctor. the more people we reach, the more lives can be saved. What we want and hope to achieve, is to prevent unnecessary deaths from Dengue. For all those who want to donate so we can help our indigent brothers and sisters who fall victim to this disease, please text us at 09209277151 or send us an email at [email protected] so we can coordinate with you directly. To all those who have helped us...to all those who are thinking of helping - our warmest THANKS. |
